2007 Legacy Award Recipients

Join us as we congratulate the 2007 Lakeview Legacy Award Recipients!

Miss Jin Tao

High School Senior Legacy Award

A senior at Rosemount High School, Jin has an extraordinary record of accomplishments and leadership, such as:

  • First in her class of 576 students;
  • Secretary, National Honor Society;
  • Captain, Science Olympiad team;
  • Yearbook editor and principal photographer for the fine arts section;
  • Public Relations Officer and “Rookie of the Year,” Student Council;
  • Attendance officer in the choir.

But her involvement doesn’t stop there. She is also active in the math team, International Club, speech team, and Diversity Club. Jin serves as a Student Ambassador to new students, and is a peer tutor in Algebra II and Chemistry. Outside of school, she volunteers as an English-Chinese interpreter at teacher conferences, serves as an ELL tutor at Rosemount Elementary School, and participates in fund raisers and activities with American Cancer Society, Foundation for Aids Research, and Feed My Starving Children. And, Jin was selected to attend 2007 Girls’ State.

Remarkable? Absolutely. But what makes Jin’s achievements even more incredible is that she moved to the United States from China with her mother just three years ago as a ninth grader. Through determination and hard work she overcame language and cultural barriers to build her legacy of service to the school and community that she now calls home.

Jin is undecided in her college selection, but intends to pursue a pre-med degree.

Mr. Mark Bellows

Citizen/Volunteer Legacy Award

“Blessed are the poor in spirit…” defines a core belief of Mark, and indeed, his professional capacities reinforce that definition. Mark is a Marriage and Family Therapist with F.A.C.T.S. (Family Adolescents & Children Therapeutic Services, Inc.) and also serves as a pastor and counselor at Hope Community Church in Lakeville, where his passion is to develop a church that is focused on recovery and counseling.

In addition, for 18 years Mark has served as Lakeville Police Chaplain, assisting officers in death notifications, suicide, and accidental death scenes by providing comfort to grieving families. He provides ongoing counseling to Fire and Police Department personnel and regularly rides along with officers. He is currently creating Lakeville Policy Chaplain Services, a non-profit organization that will expand the presence of police chaplaincy in the community. Mark also leads a team out-reach to inmates in the Dakota County Jail.

But Mark has found time to serve the community in even more ways. He has four years of service as a Lakeville Police Reserve officer, and currently is a member of the Lakeville City Council.

Mark tells us, “I can’t effectively teach what I don’t live.” Through his service to others, it is evident that his life teaches volumes.
